Did you notice the kitchens in three of the movies receiving nominations for Oscars this year? Namely, Julie and Julia (Meryl Streep), It’s Complicated (Meryl Streep) and The Blind Side (Sandra Bullock) . All three kitchens were warm and homey. The kitchens looked used and they were beautiful. IMHO I prefer this style. I was druling over all three. Rooms like these make you want to sit down and eat or in the case of at least two of the movies cook! Perhaps we have finally, thanks to Hollywood, turned a corner and have returned to the kitchen as it was meant to be. In days past the kitchen was called the Hearth Room after the hearth of the fire pit where the cooking took place. Often in the middle of the home so the warmth from the hearth could also heat other rooms it was literally the warmest place in the home and in more ways than one it was truly the center of the home. To me an intensly modern kitchen is not a working kitchen and I so enjoyed watching these movies and the spirit of the kitchen in each. How do you view the home kitchen? I love your trend list. I personally think that the next big kitchen trend (at least around me) is most likely to be the use of oversized farmhouse style basins. There’s been a huge increase in the use of this style of sink in bathroom remodeling projects also. It is definitely a cool method to give modern homes a country flare.
