Decorating with dots

Thursday, May 20th, 2010 by susanz

I was enjoying the recent Garnet Hill Catalog and thinking how cute all the polka dot sheets would

look in a children’s or teen’s room design.  Bright white background with jewel and primary toned

dots!  How cute is that?  Add basic white furniture pieces and replace the plain knobs with  our

Mushroom Cabinet Knobs that look like dots and your room is already Nifty!   Take it a step further

as many paint and wallpaper companies make covering your walls with dots a breeze.  Check

out this link for fun ideas.  http://www.unique-baby-gear-ideas.com/painting-polka-dots.html

Dots, dots and more dots.  Dotted bedding,  knobs for children that look like dots, and dots on your

walls!  How  Nifty is that?

New Kitchen Trends-3 Movies to watch

Saturday, May 15th, 2010 by susanz

Did you notice the kitchens in three of the movies receiving nominations for Oscars  this year?  Namely,  Julie and Julia (Meryl Streep),  It’s Complicated (Meryl Streep) and  The Blind Side (Sandra Bullock) .  All three kitchens were warm and homey.  The kitchens looked used and they were beautiful.  IMHO I prefer this style.  I was druling over all three.  Rooms like these make you want to sit down and eat or in the case of at least two of the movies cook!  Perhaps we have finally, thanks to Hollywood, turned a corner and have returned to the kitchen as it was meant to be.  In days past the kitchen was called the Hearth Room after the hearth of the fire pit where the cooking took place.  Often in the middle of the home so the warmth from the hearth could also heat other rooms it was literally the warmest place in the home and in more ways than one it was truly the center of the home.   To me an intensly modern kitchen is not a working kitchen and I so enjoyed watching these movies and the spirit of the kitchen in each.   How do you view the home kitchen?  Share with us ways you make your kitchen you!
